“I examine whether a special geographical location (environments around Palestinian refugee camps) is associated with policy gaps in Jordan and Lebanon by analyzing the perceptions of Syrians and host societies. Using the Arab Barometer 2016 data, I find that environments around the Palestinian refugee camps in Lebanon have become places where government policies cannot reach, leading to geographical discrepancies in how Syrians and Lebanese evaluate welfare and security services. By contrast, Jordan’s deliberate efforts to accommodate Palestinian camps into society have engendered the integration of the refugee camps. As a result, there is no observational evidence regarding such discrepancies cited by Syrians and Jordanians…”
