In the fifth and latest wave of the Arab Barometer, we asked citizens of Egypt and Iraq – around 2,400 in each country- if they generally approve of female circumcision.

APPROVAL OF FEMALE CIRCUMCISION IN EGYPT AND IRAQ
- The percent of individuals who reported that they generally approve of female circumcision was higher among individuals in Egypt (32%), and lower among individuals in Iraq (13%).
- Within Egypt, the percent of individuals who reported that they generally approve of female circumcision was higher among females (51%), and lower among males (14%).
- Within Egypt, the percentage of approval reached 43% amongst Egyptians with a secondary degree education or below compared with only 1% of those with a university education.
- Within Egypt, no statistically significant difference was detected on basis of age – comparing those aged 34 and below, and those aged 35 and above.
- Within Iraq, no statistically significant difference was detected on basis of gender, levels of education, or age categories.
